Security forces dismantle suspected Al-Shabaab camp in Digdiga operation

Date:

A joint security operation carried out in the Digdiga area has led to the destruction of a suspected Al-Shabaab camp at Qanjara Durow following a confrontation between security officers and militants.

According to security officials, the operation was carefully coordinated and involved personnel moving into the area to track down suspected extremist hideouts. The team first established a presence near the Gel Qad Junction before advancing deeper towards Qanjara Durow, where they encountered armed militants believed to be linked to the Al-Shabaab group.

The officers reportedly engaged the militants in a fierce gun battle that lasted for some time before the suspects were overpowered.

Security personnel later secured the area and continued with a search operation around the camp.

During the operation, more suspected militants who were present at the site were neutralised as officers worked to clear the area completely.

Authorities said the camp was later dismantled to prevent it from being used again for criminal or extremist activities.

Security teams recovered several items believed to have been used by the militants in their operations. Among the materials found were communication equipment, ammunition, uniforms, food supplies, and logistical items. Officers also recovered materials linked to the making of improvised explosive devices (IEDs), which are commonly used in attacks by extremist groups in the region.

The recovered items have since been secured and will undergo further examination as investigations continue. Officials believe the materials could provide useful information about the activities and movements of the group operating in the area.

The National Police Service said the operation is part of ongoing efforts to strengthen security and disrupt the activities of criminal and extremist groups. Authorities maintained that security agencies remain committed to protecting communities and ensuring areas affected by insecurity remain under close surveillance.

Operations targeting suspected militant hideouts have continued in several regions as security teams work to prevent attacks and maintain stability. Officials have urged members of the public to continue cooperating with security agencies by sharing information that may help in identifying suspicious activities or individuals.
