A report published by the People Daily on April 9, 2025 has shed light on events that took place during the requiem mass of the late MP David Kiaraho.
The ceremony was held at Ol Kalou Stadium in Nyandarua County and was attended by several political leaders, including President William Ruto.
According to the report, the Majority Leader in the National Assembly and Kikuyu MP Kimani Ichung’wah was not given an opportunity to address mourners during the event.

This decision was reportedly made by the organisers of the programme, who feared that allowing him to speak could trigger a negative reaction from the crowd. There were concerns that some mourners might respond with jeers or chants, which could disrupt the solemn nature of the occasion.
Even though he did not speak, Ichung’wah still became a central topic during the gathering. Nyandarua Senator John Methu openly criticised him in his remarks, doing so in the presence of the President.
Methu challenged Ichung’wah and questioned his recent public statements, daring him to repeat some of the remarks he has allegedly made about former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua.
The criticism did not end there. Gachagua also spoke strongly during the event, directing his remarks at Ichung’wah. He accused the Majority Leader of betraying the interests of the Kikuyu community and described him as a political liability within the ruling Kenya Kwanza administration.

His comments reflected growing tensions within the political space, especially in the Mt Kenya region.
Gachagua further claimed that Ichung’wah has been misleading President Ruto on key political matters. According to him, this has contributed to a decline in the President’s popularity in the region, which has traditionally been an important support base.

Gachagua suggested that his own influence among voters in the area remains strong.
