US applauds William Ruto for strong stand against Iran amid rising middle east tensions

Date:

The United States has praised William Ruto for his clear public stance against recent Iranian attacks in the Middle East, as tensions continue to rise in the region. The commendation came during a phone call between President Ruto and Marco Rubio on Monday, March 23, where the U.S. acknowledged Kenya’s position on the ongoing conflict involving Iran, Israel, and the United States.

Details from the conversation show that Rubio appreciated Ruto’s firm condemnation of Iran’s actions against neighbouring Gulf countries. The call also included discussions about the goals of a U.S. and Israeli military effort in Iran known as Operation Epic Fury.

According to a statement by Tommy Pigott, “Secretary Rubio thanked President Ruto for his public condemnation of Iranian aggression against Gulf States and discussed the objectives of Operation Epic Fury.”

Ruto had earlier spoken strongly against the attacks, warning that the growing conflict could harm global peace and stability. He pointed out that several countries had been affected, including United Arab Emirates, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Iraq, Oman, Kuwait, Jordan, and Bahrain.

In his earlier statement on March 2, Ruto called for calm and cooperation among nations, stressing the importance of global institutions in resolving such crises. He urged urgent dialogue to reduce tensions and avoid further escalation.

During the call, Rubio also recognized Kenya’s ongoing role in supporting global peace efforts.

He highlighted the country’s involvement in the multinational security mission in Haiti and its efforts to ensure a smooth transition to a Gang Suppression Force. This acknowledgment reflects Kenya’s growing role on the international stage, particularly in peacekeeping and security matters.

Beyond security issues, the two leaders also discussed ways to expand trade and economic cooperation. They expressed a shared commitment to strengthening the long-standing relationship between the United States and Kenya, with a focus on improving commercial opportunities and deepening diplomatic ties.

The discussions come at a time when the situation in the Middle East remains tense. Iran recently closed the strategically important Strait of Hormuz, raising concerns about global energy supply.

Earlier, Donald Trump had warned of possible military action if Iran did not reopen the route within 48 hours. However, he later stepped back after reporting successful talks with Iranian authorities.

The call between Ruto and Rubio highlights Kenya’s active voice in global affairs and the importance of international cooperation during times of crisis.
