Nairobi transport giant fights to save reputation as driver is suspended over shocking footage

Date:

Forward Travellers SACCO has taken disciplinary action against one of its drivers after a video that circulated widely online sparked public concern and debate.

The Nairobi-based commuter bus company found itself at the center of attention after the footage allegedly showed a driver mobilising individuals to engage in violence within the city.

The video began spreading across social media platforms on Sunday, July 12, attracting strong reactions from members of the public.

Many social media users questioned the activities captured in the footage and raised concerns about claims that one of the SACCO’s vehicles was being used to transport individuals suspected of taking part in unlawful activities.

As the discussion grew online, Forward Travellers SACCO issued a statement distancing itself from the incident.

The company said it does not support the misuse of its vehicles and remains committed to operating within the law.According to the SACCO, any conduct that goes against the law or its internal policies is unacceptable.

The company emphasized that it has built its reputation over many years by providing transport services to Nairobi residents and would not support actions that could put that trust at risk.

In its response, the SACCO announced that it had already taken administrative action against the driver seen in the video. The disciplinary measure, it explained, is temporary and will remain in place as investigations continue.

The company said the action was necessary to allow authorities and internal processes to establish the facts surrounding the incident.

Forward Travellers SACCO also argued that the circulation of the video appeared aimed at damaging its image and weakening the confidence that customers and members have placed in the company over the years.

Despite these concerns, the company stated that it remains focused on cooperating fully with investigators to ensure the truth is established.

The transport company further noted that it is working with the relevant authorities as investigations continue.

It said any additional action will depend on the findings of the ongoing inquiries. The SACCO maintained that it supports lawful investigations and is prepared to take further steps if necessary.

The company issued a reminder to its drivers, conductors, and other employees about the importance of professionalism. Staff members were urged to obey the law, respect company policies, and conduct themselves in a manner that protects the reputation of the organisation.

The SACCO warned that any employee found to have violated its rules or engaged in unlawful conduct would face disciplinary action in line with company policies and the law. It stressed that maintaining public confidence remains one of its key priorities.

Forward Travellers SACCO also reassured passengers that it remains committed to providing safe, reliable, and quality transport services.

The company said its management and staff continue to uphold standards of professionalism, integrity, and customer service.

Meanwhile, police have not yet released the results of their investigations. Authorities have also not publicly confirmed the identities of the individuals seen in the video.

Many people are waiting for official findings that will provide a clearer picture of what happened and whether any laws were broken.
