Nairobi police officer arrested after allegedly losing gun at city massage parlour

Date:

A police officer attached to the Security of Government Buildings unit in Nairobi has been arrested after allegedly losing his firearm at a massage parlour in the city centre.

According to a report filed at Central Police Station, the officer, identified as Police Constable Amos Kimathi, said the incident happened on May 21, 2025, at around 4pm.

He told investigators that he had visited Kingsway Massage Parlour along Monrovia Street for a massage session.

The officer, who reportedly works as an escort to a former Member of Parliament for Tigania Central, explained that after the massage, he became tired and fell asleep.

He further claimed that attendants at the premises later moved him to another room so that he could continue resting.

Before sleeping, the officer said he placed his Ceska pistol, serial number G0610, under a pillow. He stated that when he woke up later at around 11pm, the firearm was no longer there.

According to the police report, the officer tried searching for the weapon within the premises but was unable to find it. He later decided to report the matter to officers at Central Police Station.

The massage parlour where the incident allegedly happened is located along Monrovia Street, a short distance from the police station.

Officers from the National Police Service later visited the scene as part of the investigation. Crime scene personnel also documented the area and gathered information that may help in the case.

Following the report, the officer was arrested and placed in police cells as investigations into the disappearance of the firearm began.

Police are now working to establish exactly how the weapon went missing and whether other people may have been involved.

Authorities have also launched efforts to recover the missing pistol.

The matter is currently being handled by officers from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) based at Central Police Station in Nairobi.

The incident has raised concerns over the handling and safety of firearms issued to police officers, especially while off duty.

Investigations are expected to continue as detectives seek more details surrounding the disappearance of the weapon.
