Migori Readies for 5th Piny Luo Cultural Festival

Date:

Plans are advancing quickly as Migori County prepares to welcome thousands of guests for the 5th Edition of the Piny Luo Cultural Festival and Migori Cultural Extravaganza, which will run from 14 to 16 December 2025.

The event will showcase the richness of Luo cultural identity while building unity, supporting innovation, and creating economic opportunities.

During a media briefing in Nairobi, Migori Governor H.E. Ochilo G. Ayacko explained that the festival is designed to celebrate the county’s cultural diversity, noting that Migori brings together people from many different communities.

With the theme “Honoring Heritage, Uniting Generations,” the festival aims to link traditional practices with modern forms of creativity, business, and cultural exchange.

This year’s celebration carries special meaning because it will be held without its long-serving patron, the late Rt. Hon. Raila Odinga.

Governor Ayacko stated that although individuals may only serve for a short period, a nation and its identity continue across generations.

He added that the festival will allow the Luo community and the country to reflect on Raila Odinga’s national and international contributions, inspiring both the youth and older generations to value the qualities he represented.

The governor also highlighted that the festival will create a space for other communities such as the Kuria, Luhya, Kisii, and Somalis to express and celebrate their cultures publicly.

Visitors will experience a wide range of activities, including cultural performances, discussions on culture and commerce, a First Lady’s Gala Night, and an exciting boat competition at Migori’s beautiful water bodies.

President William Ruto and several regional leaders are expected to attend the event alongside leading cultural figures, innovators, and development partners.

Governor Ayacko emphasized that the festival will help position Migori as a strong hub for investment and tourism.

In addition, plenary sessions will explore how cultural heritage can enhance inclusive trade, support creative industries, and empower the youth in line with broader development priorities.
