Mwelekeo Insights has launched a nationwide survey to understand how Kenyans are coping with the rising cost of living, with early responses showing that many households are struggling to keep up with daily expenses.
The organisation, which focuses on public opinion research, gathered views from thousands of citizens across the country to capture the reality of life as prices continue to rise. Their initial findings point to a mix of resilience, adjustment, and growing financial pressure among ordinary Kenyans.
According to the preview shared by the organisation, many respondents said they have been forced to change the way they spend money in order to survive. Some families are cutting down on non-essential purchases, while others are turning to side hustles and additional jobs to support their income.
Several people also reported reducing the amount of food they buy or choosing cheaper alternatives as the prices of basic commodities continue to increase.
The responses show that many Kenyans are finding it difficult to cope with the sharp rise in the cost of essentials such as food, transport, rent, and school expenses. For some households, incomes have remained the same even as the prices of everyday items continue to climb.
This has created pressure on families trying to balance their needs while also planning for the future.Although the organisation has not yet released the full report, the short preview already paints a picture of the challenges many people are facing.
Mwelekeo Insights said the complete findings will include more detailed analysis, trends from different regions, and personal experiences shared by those who participated in the survey.
The final report is expected to provide a bigger understanding of how economic conditions are affecting people from different backgrounds.
The organisation says its goal is to ensure that the voices of ordinary citizens are heard clearly and honestly.
