The investigation into the death of Technical University of Kenya lecturer Edgar Mokua has taken a major step forward after homicide detectives arrested the main suspect believed to be linked to the killing.
Mokua, a lecturer at the Technical University of Kenya (TUK), was reported missing after he left his home in Lavington on July 6, 2026, and failed to return.
According to investigators, he was last seen leaving his residence at Princes Park at around 4:20 p.m.
His sudden disappearance caused concern among family members and friends, who later reported the matter at Muthangari Police Station after efforts to locate him were unsuccessful.
The search for Mokua ended tragically five days later when his body was discovered at the City Mortuary. Police established that the body had been recovered near Woodcreek Academy and transported to the mortuary by officers from Kiamumbi Police Station.
The circumstances surrounding the case prompted homicide detectives to take over the investigation. As they pieced together Mokua’s final movements, detectives found that on the evening he disappeared, he had spent several hours at Kettle Club in Lavington in the company of two men and a woman.
The group later moved to Ibiza Club at Lavington Mall.Investigators believe that at some point during the night, Mokua was left behind after his companions departed. That was the last confirmed sighting of the lecturer before his death.
His body was later found abandoned near Woodcreek Academy, raising serious questions about what happened after he was separated from the group.
Through forensic analysis and intelligence gathering, detectives traced a grey Toyota Ractis, registration number KBZ 002R, which is believed to have been used to transport and dump Mokua’s body at the scene.
Investigators say the vehicle was seen leaving the area shortly after the body was abandoned.
The breakthrough led detectives to launch a manhunt that eventually resulted in the arrest of Richard Gikuhe Mbugua in Ruiru Blue Estate.
Police identified him as the owner of the Toyota Ractis linked to the case.
The vehicle was later recovered at Murera Farm in Juja and has since been detained as evidence.
Mbugua remains in police custody as authorities complete the necessary processing before presenting him in court. Detectives have indicated that investigations are still ongoing as they work to establish the full circumstances surrounding Mokua’s death and determine whether other individuals may have been involved.
