Senior lawyer Ahmednasir Abdullahi has spoken strongly about the events that followed the recent attack on former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua at Witima Church.
He raised concerns about how the situation was handled and the decisions made by those in power.Writing on social media, Ahmednasir said the political situation around Gachagua looks uncertain and tense.
He explained that the former deputy president appears to be losing support in the Mount Kenya region, which has always been his political base.
According to him, many people who once stood with Gachagua are slowly stepping away. He also said some people who used to help him financially are no longer willing to do so.
Ahmednasir believes this problem is partly caused by how Gachagua relates with others.
He said Gachagua’s style has made some allies uncomfortable, leaving him exposed as politics ahead of the 2027 elections begins to take shape.
He added that even opposition groups may now be paying attention to other leaders they see as easier to work with. The senior counsel also attacked the role of police officers who reportedly interfered with Gachagua’s public meetings.
He questioned who gave them instructions to stop or disturb rallies that were meant to be peaceful. In his view, using police officers to fight political battles is wrong and shows poor judgment.
He went further to say that officers involved in such actions should be held responsible. Ahmednasir also pointed fingers at the Inspector General of Police, Douglas Kanja, suggesting that leadership changes may be needed.
He felt that President William Ruto should step in to address the situation.
Ahmednasir described the incident as a clear sign of deeper problems in how decisions are being made within government, warning that poor leadership often leads to serious mistakes.
