Six people have died following a tragic road accident involving a matatu and a truck at Kimara along the Nakuru-Eldoret Highway in Kuresoi North Sub-County.

The fatal crash occurred on Saturday, with emergency responders and police officers rushing to the scene shortly after the collision.

According to Kuresoi North Sub-County Police Commander John Kimutai, six people lost their lives in the accident, while several others sustained injuries of varying severity.

The injured victims were rescued from the wreckage and taken to nearby hospitals for treatment. Authorities have not yet disclosed the identities of the deceased as efforts continue to notify their families.

Preliminary reports indicate that the matatu collided head-on with a truck, although the exact cause of the accident is yet to be established. Traffic police have launched investigations to determine the circumstances that led to the deadly crash.

The accident caused a temporary traffic snarl along the busy Nakuru-Eldoret Highway as emergency teams cleared the damaged vehicles and recovered the bodies.

Motorists were advised to exercise caution while using the route until normal traffic flow was restored.

Road accidents remain a major concern on Kenyan highways, with authorities repeatedly urging drivers to observe traffic rules, avoid speeding, and ensure their vehicles are roadworthy before embarking on journeys.

Police Commander John Kimutai confirmed the incident and said investigations are ongoing. He appealed to motorists to remain vigilant and adhere to road safety regulations to help reduce the rising number of fatal crashes on the country’s roads.

The bodies of the six victims were moved to a local mortuary pending identification and postmortem examinations. Meanwhile, police continue collecting evidence from the scene as they seek to establish the events leading up to the collision.

The latest tragedy adds to the growing list of fatal road accidents reported across the country, renewing calls for stricter enforcement of traffic laws and greater caution among all road users to prevent further loss of life.
