The political situation in Nairobi is already taking shape as the 2027 General Election draws closer.
A recent survey conducted by Mwelekeo Insights has provided an early indication of voter preferences for the Nairobi Senate seat. While the election is still some distance away, the findings offer a glimpse into which candidates are currently attracting the support of voters in the capital.
Sifuna Leads the Pack
According to the survey results, incumbent Senator Edwin Sifuna is the preferred candidate among respondents, securing 43.6% support.
His performance places him comfortably ahead of the other contenders at this stage of the race.Ken Babu emerged in second place with 29.3% support, while Felix Jalang’o followed in third position with 20.1%.
Kenneth Onyango ranked fourth with 5.2% support.
The results suggest that Sifuna currently enjoys a strong advantage, though the race remains open as political campaigns and alliances continue to evolve ahead of 2027.
Voters Remain Undecided
One of the notable findings from the survey is the low number of undecided voters. Only 1.8% of respondents indicated that they had not yet settled on a preferred candidate.
Such a small percentage suggests that many Nairobi voters already have a clear view of who they would like to represent them in the Senate.
This level of certainty is notable given that the election is still more than a year away.
The survey involved 328 respondents, with all votes recorded as valid.
Race Still Far From Decided
Despite the current standings, the political environment remains fluid. Campaigns are yet to enter full swing, and voter opinions can change as candidates intensify their outreach efforts.
Political endorsements, policy proposals, emerging issues, and shifts in the national political climate could all influence the race in the months ahead.
While the survey offers an early snapshot of public opinion, it should not be viewed as a prediction of the final outcome.
