Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has publicly raised serious concerns about his personal security, explicitly claiming that his life is currently in danger.
He shared these deep worries in a detailed statement posted across his official social media platforms.
This urgent warning comes directly ahead of the planned Gen Z anniversary protests, which are scheduled to take place on Thursday, June 25.
The former deputy president explained that he feels highly vulnerable due to recent unexpected movements by security forces near his private residence.
In his online statement, Gachagua alleged that a team of highly trained police officers had been deployed very close to his home. He claimed that this specific 15-member squad was given the task of infiltrating the planned public demonstrations in Karatina, a town located in Nyeri County. Gachagua expressed fear that the presence of these officers is not for public safety, but rather a direct threat to his own well-being.

According to the former deputy president, this 15-member squad is not new to him. He stated that they are closely linked to a smaller 12-member group that he had previously accused of violence.
Gachagua reminded the public of an incident that happened in January this year at the Witima ACK Church, where his supporters were attacked. He firmly believes that he was the primary target of that church incident and that it was an attempt on his life.
Gachagua also expressed disappointment with how the government handled the situation after the church attack. He claimed that despite the officers being clearly identified for their actions in January, they did not face any disciplinary action.
Instead, he alleged that they were later promoted and assigned to new duties. According to Gachagua, these new tasks are specifically designed to target individuals who speak out against or criticize President William Ruto’s administration.
The former deputy president laid direct blame on top government and law enforcement officials. He specifically accused Interior Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen and the Deputy Inspector General of Police, Eliud Lagat, of directing the alleged killer squad. He claimed that these leaders instructed the officers to move directly to his Wamunyoro home to carry out what he described as an unfinished mission.
Gachagua stated that because he believes he was previously targeted for assassination in a church, he is naturally very anxious that they want to complete the job they failed to do back in January.
However, despite his fears, he concluded his message by stating that in whatever situation he faces, God is ultimately in control.
