Detectives from the Operations Support Unit (OSU) have arrested six people and rescued three Indian nationals in a suspected human trafficking case in Ruiru, Kiambu County.
The three Indian nationals had reportedly gone missing after arriving in Kenya on August 5, 2026. Their whereabouts later became the subject of investigations, leading detectives to a two-bedroom house in the Fort Jesus area of Ruiru, where they were found.
According to preliminary investigations, the three arrived at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA) and were cleared to enter the country. After leaving the airport, they reportedly boarded a taxi that had allegedly been arranged by a person who was waiting to receive them in Ruiru.
The three were then taken to the house, where detectives believe they were held without communication.
The circumstances surrounding their movement from the airport to the house are now part of the ongoing investigation.
The six people arrested include Avtar Singh, an Indian national, Ali Khashif and Syed Shujaat Hussein, both Pakistani nationals, and two Kenyans identified as Stephen Karomo and Damaris Katulu Daudi.
A Kenyan minor was also found at the house. The child was allegedly working as a house help at the premises.
Authorities are expected to establish the circumstances under which the minor came to be at the house and whether the child was connected to the suspected activities being investigated.
During preliminary questioning, the suspects reportedly told detectives that they were helping the three Indian nationals travel to Italy through Ethiopia.
Investigators are now working to verify the explanation and establish what happened after the three arrived in Kenya.
Detectives are also seeking to determine whether the suspects were acting alone or were part of a wider network involved in human trafficking. Investigations will also focus on identifying other people who may have been involved in arranging the travel, receiving the three nationals and keeping them at the Ruiru house.
The rescue comes as investigators continue to examine the movement of foreign nationals who may be brought into Kenya under unclear circumstances before being transported to other countries.The six suspects remain in police custody as investigations continue. Authorities are expected to present them in court as they pursue further leads and establish whether they will face charges linked to human trafficking or other offences.
Police have not indicated the condition of the three rescued Indian nationals following the operation.
Their statements are expected to form part of the investigations as detectives work to establish how they ended up at the house and whether they were taken there willingly or against their wishes.
The case remains under investigation, with detectives also working to establish the full extent of the suspected trafficking operation and identify any other people who may be involved.
