Brenda Biya shocks Cameroon after urging Citizens to reject her father in 2025 election

Date:

Brenda Biya, the daughter of Cameroon’s president Paul Biya, has drawn attention after asking citizens not to vote for her father in the coming October 2025 election.

Using a TikTok live session to address her followers, she said the administration had failed the country and accused it of causing poverty, unemployment, and economic stagnation. Known by her stage name “King Nasty,” Brenda said the 43 years of her father’s leadership had kept Cameroon stuck in the past and that it was time for citizens to choose change instead of staying loyal to a system that has not delivered results.

Paul Biya, who is now 92 years old, has been in power since 1982, making him the oldest sitting head of state in Africa and one of the longest-serving leaders in the world. His leadership has faced heavy criticism over the years, with accusations of authoritarianism, corruption, and flawed elections. Despite these issues, he has repeatedly held onto power, winning elections that opposition groups and observers often say are neither fair nor transparent.

What makes Brenda’s statement stand out is that it is rare for a child of a sitting president in Africa to openly speak against their parent, especially in matters of politics and elections.

Her remarks quickly spread online and sparked discussions both within Cameroon and beyond. Many people saw her move as a bold rejection of the current system, while others saw it as a sign of generational tension between the old ruling class and a younger population that is frustrated with decades of the same leadership.

Still, her decision to publicly oppose her father has not been accepted by everyone. Some critics say Brenda, who lives abroad and often shares a luxurious lifestyle online, may not fully understand the daily struggles of ordinary citizens in Cameroon. They argue that her privileged position and distance from the realities on the ground make it difficult for her to connect with the very people she is asking to reject her father’s leadership.

Others also believe her complicated relationship with her family may have influenced her choice to speak out, raising doubts about her sincerity.

Even with these questions, the fact that her statement has entered public debate shows the level of discontent within the country.

Whether or not Cameroonians will take her words seriously remains to be seen, but her move has already put pressure on a political system that has for years resisted change.

It has also raised new conversations about leadership, democracy, and the voices of young people in shaping the future of their countries. In a nation where political power has been firmly controlled for over four decades, her message, whether embraced or dismissed, highlights a growing call for change.
