Political Ringside interview lays out Jubilee’s 2027 strategy and youth-focused political plan

Date:

The Jubilee Party is at a critical stage as it prepares for the 2027 General Election, with its leadership and presidential direction coming under fresh focus. Speaking on Political Ringside, the party’s National Youth Chairperson Angel Mbuthia addressed questions about the future of Jubilee, the role of former President Uhuru Kenyatta, and the rising profile of Fred Matiang’i as a possible flag bearer.

During the discussion with host Fridah Mong’are, Mbuthia made it clear that Uhuru Kenyatta remains the party leader because of the decision made by delegates.

She said Jubilee follows its constitution and internal processes, and any leadership change must be done legally and democratically.

According to her, the party will not remove leaders through pressure or shortcuts.

She added that Jubilee respects order and structure, and that is why Uhuru continues to hold his position even after leaving State House.

Much of the conversation focused on Fred Matiang’i and his potential presidential bid in 2027.

Mbuthia described him as Jubilee’s preferred candidate, pointing to his past record in government.

As a former Cabinet Secretary in key ministries such as Education and Interior, Matiang’i handled sensitive national duties.

He was involved in reforms in the education sector, especially in the management of national examinations, and also oversaw security matters.

Mbuthia said his experience shows that he understands how government systems work and how to implement policy.

She added that the country needs someone who can solve problems in a time when technology and artificial intelligence are shaping economies and governance.

Mbuthia also addressed claims that Matiang’i is being pushed forward by Uhuru Kenyatta. She stated that he made his own decision to associate with Jubilee after listening to the concerns of young Kenyans, especially during the 2024 protests.

According to her, many young people were demanding accountable leadership and practical solutions.

She said Matiang’i represents the type of leadership they were calling for. In her view, he is not a regional or tribal candidate but someone with national appeal.

The conversation also examined the political challenges facing Jubilee. Mbuthia noted that opposition parties often experience pressure, court battles, and internal disagreements.

She said Jubilee is aware of these risks and is working to remain united. She pointed out that Uhuru Kenyatta has openly criticized the current administration led by William Ruto, and that his stance aligns with many young people who want reforms.

Because of this, she described him as an important voice within the party as it prepares for the next election cycle.

Youth participation was another key issue. Mbuthia urged young Kenyans, including Gen Z, to go beyond protests and actively take part in elections.

She encouraged voter registration, civic education, and contesting for leadership positions. She warned that failing to vote could allow existing problems to continue.

Jubilee, she said, plans to conduct free and fair nominations to give young aspirants a fair opportunity.

Mbuthia expressed confidence that Jubilee is reorganizing and strengthening its structures.

She mentioned the importance of teamwork within the party and the use of digital platforms to connect with voters.

The aim, she said, is to present Kenyans with a serious alternative focused on accountability and practical leadership.

The discussion on Political Ringside offered insight into how Jubilee is shaping its strategy and positioning itself for the future, with Matiang’i at the center of its plans.
