Ruto targets landslide win as UDA-ODM coalition sets sights on 2027 election

Date:

As the country slowly turns its attention to the 2027 General Election, President William Ruto has made it clear that his political camp is aiming for a much stronger mandate than before.

Addressing leaders during the United Democratic Alliance National Governing Council meeting on Monday, January 26, 2026, the President openly stated that the UDA and Orange Democratic Movement coalition must win the next election by a margin of between two and three million votes.

He said such a result would reflect national unity and give the government enough public support to move forward without constant political disruptions.

Ruto spoke with confidence, saying the coalition has the strength, structure, and reach across the country to achieve such a victory. He reminded party leaders that the 2022 election was decided by a very slim margin of about 200,000 votes. According to him, that experience taught important lessons about leadership and governance.

He stressed that moving forward, any government that wants to fully deliver on its promises must enjoy broad backing from the people.

For him, a wider victory would mean stronger legitimacy and smoother implementation of government programs.

The President strongly defended the cooperation between UDA and ODM, noting that it was not about political convenience but about bringing the country together.

He said past elections often left Kenya divided, with some communities feeling left out of government. Ruto insisted that this approach had to change if the country was to move forward as one.

“There is justification for us to consolidate the country into one,” Ruto said. “There is enough for every Kenyan. One does not need to miss for the other one to get.” He added that leadership should not be built on exclusion or winner-takes-all politics.

He praised ODM leaders who are currently serving in his administration, saying their participation showed political maturity and a shared commitment to national development.

According to Ruto, their involvement proves that it is possible to rise above party lines and focus on what benefits ordinary Kenyans.

He argued that the UDA-ODM partnership is a key pillar in pushing forward the transformation agenda that the Kenya Kwanza government has promoted since taking office.

Ruto also pointed to what he described as a strong performance record by his administration. He said the government has a clear scorecard that it will present to voters ahead of 2027.

Among the main areas he highlighted were expanding energy generation to support industry and households, modernizing agriculture to improve food security and farmer incomes, and speeding up infrastructure development across the country.

He said these efforts form a clear plan that can only succeed fully if the country remains politically stable.

However, the President admitted that development projects alone would not guarantee re-election.

He told leaders that politics still matters and that a well-organized strategy is needed to mobilize voters across all regions.

He urged UDA leaders to stay united, focus on performance, and strengthen grassroots engagement.

Ruto concluded by saying that a decisive victory in 2027 would give the coalition the authority and stability needed to implement its agenda without unnecessary interruptions.
