Engineer Mohamed Moulid Shurie has received a major political boost in the 2027 Garissa gubernatorial race following the endorsement of Adan Ali of the Awdak clan.

Mr. Shurie, who is among the leading contenders for the county’s top seat, has now secured the backing of Awdak elders and leaders after a series of family and clan deliberations.

“The family and clan have held extensive consultations and agreed to rally behind Eng. Mohamed Moulid Shurie as their candidate for governor,” said the source, who spoke on condition of anonymity due to the sensitivity of the talks.
The 2027 Garissa governor race remains highly competitive. Shurie is facing strong competition from several well-known figures, including former Garissa Governor Ambassador Ali Korane, Garissa Senator Abdulkadir Mohamed Haji, Ambassador Mohamed Shidiye, and Ahmed Ibrahim Abass, popularly known as Bishar Ijara.
Each of these candidates brings experience and established support bases, making the contest closely watched across the county.
Shurie is not new to Garissa politics or to competitive races. In 2013, he stepped down from the gubernatorial contest in support of Ambassador Ali Korane.
That decision earned him respect among sections of the electorate, with many viewing it as a sign of political maturity and willingness to put unity above personal ambition.
Supporters say his past actions continue to resonate, especially in Fafi and Balambala constituencies, where residents are increasingly expressing support for his bid.
