Passaris’ sporty look at East African games splits opinion online

Date:

Nairobi Woman Representative Esther Passaris set social media on fire after stepping onto a Ugandan golf course in a bold outfit during the East African Parliamentary Games.

Her look, a navy polo shirt paired with a floral short skirt and bright pink sports shoes, quickly became the centre of online discussion.

Passaris shared clips from the match on her X page, praising Team Kenya’s strong results. She revealed that Kenya topped the leaderboard with 439 points. Uganda followed with 312 while Rwanda, EALA and South Sudan trailed behind. She celebrated the day as a blend of sport, unity and friendship.

The parliamentary games, now in their 15th edition, are running in Kampala from December 5 to 17. As soon as images of her sporty look surfaced, reactions poured in. Some fans applauded her confidence and urged critics to focus on the game. Others questioned whether the skirt was too short for a public leader.

Supporters argued that golfing gear should be comfortable and that Passaris simply dressed for the sport. They praised her for representing Kenya with energy and style. Detractors, however, felt leaders should dress more conservatively, even during casual events.

This is not the first time her fashion has stirred a national debate. In 2019, an old photo of her in a see-through designer dress sparked uproar, with many calling it unsuitable. Passaris defended herself strongly and insisted that she owed no one an apology for her choices.

She again faced criticism in October after visiting the Odinga family in a high-slit designer dress while offering condolences. A section of Kenyans said the outfit did not match the solemn mood. Others insisted she looked dignified and that people were overreacting.

Despite the buzz, Passaris continues to attract attention wherever she goes. Her presence in Kampala has once again become a talking point, proving that her fashion choices remain as influential as her politics.
