Raila Odinga was the most searched public figure in Kenya in 2025, according to Google’s Year in Search report released on Thursday.
He also came in second among the most searched news topics. His online presence was so strong that many Kenyans even searched for the definition of “enigma,” a word often used to describe his political image. Odinga died on October 15 this year.
The report shows what Kenyans wanted to know most throughout 2025, covering areas such as politics, sports, culture, food, and major global stories.
One of the top national concerns was the Social Health Authority (SHA), as many people went online to understand how the new health system operates.
Sports continued to dominate public interest.
The African Nations Championship (CHAN) led all news searches, showing how deeply Kenyans love football. Middle-distance star Faith Kipyegon was the most searched sports personality, keeping her position as one of the country’s leading athletes.
International names also caught attention, including Slovenian striker Benjamin Šeško and Portuguese footballer Diogo Jota, who died in 2025.
