Big boost for Shabana as President Ruto backs Kisii stadium expansion

Date:

Plans to improve the Kisii County Stadium have now taken a major step forward after President William Ruto reaffirmed his commitment to transforming the facility into a modern sports arena.

During his visit to Kisii on Saturday, November 22, 2025, the President pointed out that the current state of the stadium does not match the standards expected for a team with the huge following that Shabana FC commands.

He explained that Kisii deserves a facility that reflects its passion for football and supports its players in a better way.

Ruto also highlighted the ongoing discussions to move the Agricultural Society of Kenya offices from their current location near the stadium.

This relocation is expected to free up space so that the stadium can be expanded. He noted that a contractor is already prepared to begin the work once the county government finishes the process of transferring the ASK land.

The President said the national government has already agreed with the ASK officials about moving from the five acre plot, making it possible to upgrade the stadium to international standards.

According to Ruto, the goal is to turn the Kisii County Stadium into a facility that can host major national events and even international football matches.

He emphasized that Kisii should not be left behind when it comes to sports development and that the people of the region deserve a stadium they can be proud of.

He added that Shabana FC’s strong support across the country shows the importance of investing in better sports facilities. This is not the first time the President has shown support for Shabana FC.

A few months earlier, in August, he pledged to donate a modern team bus to the club.

The promise was confirmed in a statement by the club’s Secretary General Elizaphan Kerama on Friday, August 15, 2025.

The club described the gesture as a sign of confidence from the President and a boost to the team as it prepared for the 2025 season under coach Peter Okidi.

Shabana FC expressed deep appreciation for the donation, stating that the new bus would not only help the team travel comfortably but also raise their profile as one of Kenya’s most followed football clubs.

The management, players, coaches, and supporters all welcomed the promise and said it showed that the President values the growth of sports in the country.

With the stadium upgrade plans now taking shape and the promise of a modern team bus, many fans hope that Shabana FC will benefit from better facilities and improved support.

The President’s renewed commitment has raised expectations in Kisii, where residents are eager to see progress and finally enjoy a stadium that matches the county’s stature in Kenyan football.
