A police investigation has taken a new turn after one of the officers believed to have been involved in the killing of his colleague in Luanda Sub-county was finally captured following a long manhunt.
The suspect, who had vanished immediately after the incident, was tracked down and arrested by officers from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations after several weeks of pursuit.
His disappearance had fueled tension and speculation within the police service, as investigators worked tirelessly to uncover what truly happened on that fateful night in August.
According to reports, the two officers were assigned to guard a government-subsidised fertiliser container at Esirabe in Luanda Sub-county on the night of August 22, 2025.
It was during this assignment that tragedy struck. The slain officer was found dead after a shooting incident, while his colleague, who is now the suspect, disappeared without a trace.
Moments before fleeing, the suspect is said to have fired several rounds into the air, causing panic in the area before vanishing and abandoning both his police uniform and firearm at the scene.
Luanda OCPD Richard Siele confirmed the arrest, saying that the suspect is being detained at the Luanda Police Station and is expected to be taken to court as investigations continue.
He said that the arrest is a significant step toward uncovering the truth about what led to the fatal shooting. Siele also noted that detectives are still working to gather crucial evidence that will help piece together the events of that night and determine the motive behind the killing.
The reason for the shooting has not yet been established, leaving both the family of the deceased and fellow officers seeking answers. The fallen officer was laid to rest last month at his family home in Uasin Gishu County in an emotional ceremony attended by colleagues, friends, and relatives who described him as disciplined and hardworking.
The arrest of his colleague has now reignited hopes that justice will be served and that the full story of what happened will eventually come to light.
Cases involving police officers turning against one another have increasingly raised alarm, painting a troubling picture within the disciplined forces. Authorities have been calling for deeper psychological evaluation and better welfare support for officers to prevent such tragedies.
The arrest in Luanda serves as a grim reminder of the growing concern over internal conflicts and the need for continued reforms to restore public trust in the police service.
