Renowned journalist and digital content creator Lynn Ngugi has joined the growing list of Kenyans condemning Nyeri Governor Mutahi Kahiga following his controversial remarks about the late Raila Odinga.
In a viral video, Governor Kahiga appeared to suggest that Raila’s death would “free up government resources for the Mt Kenya region,” a statement that has sparked outrage across the country.
Ngugi, known for her bold and empathetic voice on social issues, took to her social media platforms on Tuesday to express her disappointment, describing Kahiga’s words as “a stain on leadership and a reflection of moral decay in public office.”
She called for his immediate resignation, arguing that his comments dishonor the values of unity and respect that leaders are expected to uphold.
“No leader should ever celebrate the death of another person, regardless of political differences. Governor Kahiga’s remarks are not only insensitive but dangerous they promote division and hatred in a nation that is already struggling to heal,” Ngugi stated.
Her call for accountability has resonated with many Kenyans online, with thousands echoing her sentiments under the trending hashtag #KahigaMustResign.
Social media users described Kahiga’s statement as “inhuman,” “unbecoming of a leader,” and “a betrayal to the legacy of national reconciliation.”Meanwhile, several political figures and civil society groups have also demanded that the governor issue a public apology and face disciplinary action.
The Council of Governors and human rights organizations are reportedly monitoring the situation closely.
