The United States has made a significant move to strengthen Haiti’s ongoing fight against gang violence by delivering 20 new armoured vehicles to support anti-gang operations.
The vehicles were handed over as part of Washington’s continued partnership with the Haitian government, with the Bureau of International Narcotics and Law Enforcement Affairs facilitating the contribution.
This development marks a renewed effort to improve the security situation in the Caribbean nation, which has been plagued by gang activities and instability for years.
According to the statement released on Wednesday, October 8, the new vehicles will be used to reinforce the Gang Suppression Force and the Haitian National Police.
These two units have been at the forefront of operations aimed at dismantling criminal groups that have been terrorizing civilians and disrupting economic and social life across several regions.
The armoured vehicles are expected to help security officers respond faster and more effectively to violent incidents while ensuring better protection for both law enforcement and residents.
The Gang Suppression Force was formed as an expanded international security coalition after replacing the Kenya-led Multinational Security Support Mission.
Despite the structural changes, Kenyan officers remain part of the mission, continuing to offer expertise and operational support.
Their experience in dealing with organized crime has made them key players in the ongoing campaign to restore peace and control in the streets of Port-au-Prince and other affected areas.

The delivery comes only two weeks after President William Ruto expressed frustration over inadequate logistical support for the mission in Haiti.
The move by President Donald Trump’s administration to provide the new vehicles now appears to fill part of that gap, ensuring that the forces on the ground are better equipped to handle complex operations against heavily armed gangs.
US officials emphasized that the delivery demonstrates their firm commitment to supporting Haiti’s law enforcement institutions in addressing organized crime and restoring stability.
Security experts have noted that the addition of these vehicles could significantly change the balance of power between gangs and the state, giving security forces an upper hand in areas previously under criminal control.
Analysts further argue that the support represents more than just a logistical boost it signals growing international confidence in Haiti’s ability to manage its internal security with global assistance.
For the Kenyan officers deployed in the field, the new vehicles are a much-needed upgrade, offering them greater mobility, safety, and effectiveness in high-risk missions.
