MP George Peter Kaluma has launched a scathing morning attack against critics of the ‘Broad Based Government,’ accusing them of “wishing us death” in a fiery social media post.
In the same message, the Member of Parliament revealed what he believes is the current constitutional state of the opposition, declaring it to be non-existent and “imaginary.”
The Honourable George Peter Kaluma aimed his message directly at Kenyans who have been expressing their dissatisfaction with the government’s first year in office. He did not hold back his frustration, writing, “It is just one year of Broad Based Government and you are crying all over, even wishing us death. “
Mr. Kaluma then moved to reveal the current state of the opposition from his legal and political viewpoint. He made the bold constitutional claim that there is no officially recognized opposition body in the country.” There is no Opposition under the current Constitution,” he stated, arguing that the formal role of checking the government’s power belongs to the legislature as a unified body.
He explained that it is “Parliament as a whole” which “oversights government,” a statement that seeks to delegitimize any opposition group operating outside of this internal process.
The Member of Parliament concluded his scathing attack with a final, dismissive comment on the status of his political rivals. He told critics to “be happy in your imaginary opposition,” thereby revealing his view that any group claiming to be the opposition is operating under a constitutional fantasy.
He further advised them to focus on “the work we have been doing for you since independence,” positioning the government as the sole legitimate political force and dismissing all external opposition as irrelevant.
