Residents of Garden Estate in Nairobi were left shaken after a dramatic police operation ended in a fatal shoot-out, leaving three suspected criminals dead.
The Thursday evening incident has once again raised questions about the safety of city neighborhoods as cases of insecurity continue to trouble residents.
According to police reports, officers had received intelligence about suspicious individuals who were allegedly planning to carry out a robbery in the area. Acting on this information, a team of officers moved in swiftly to prevent the attack from happening.
Upon spotting the three men, the officers challenged them but were met with gunfire.
The exchange that followed was intense as the suspects and police engaged in a fierce shoot-out that lasted several minutes. The situation only calmed when all three suspects were fatally wounded.
Police later confirmed that the men were armed with pistols and crude weapons believed to have been intended for use in the planned robbery.
Residents who witnessed the operation recounted moments of panic as gunfire echoed through the neighborhood. Many rushed into their homes, locking doors and windows as the police secured the scene.
One resident said the experience was terrifying and revealed that insecurity has been a major concern for those living in Garden Estate.
Police assured residents that investigations are underway to identify the suspects and establish whether they were part of a wider gang operating in Nairobi.

Authorities were also keen to confirm that no police officers or civilians were injured during the shoot-out, a relief for many who feared casualties during the intense confrontation.
The recovered weapons will be taken for ballistic testing to determine whether they had been used in previous criminal incidents across the city.
Officials promised that security patrols in the area would be increased to reassure residents and curb the growing threat of armed criminals targeting residential areas.
Community leaders have called on locals to stay alert and work closely with security agencies by reporting any suspicious activities before they escalate into criminal attacks.
While residents welcomed the swift action taken by police to neutralize the threat, there remains an underlying fear that such incidents could happen again if insecurity is not addressed comprehensively.
Many believe that cooperation between police and the public will play a big role in restoring confidence and ensuring that neighborhoods like Garden Estate remain safe.
