Githunguri MP Gathoni Wamuchomba has strongly criticised Interior Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen for what she described as a neglect of duty in ensuring justice for victims of the Kware dumpsite killings.
Her comments came on Friday, August 15, 2025, shortly after she was suspended from Parliament for 20 days.
Wamuchomba claimed that the handling of the cases, which she categorises as femicide, has been inadequate and that the lack of action has emboldened perpetrators.
“CS Murkomen’s failure to aggressively pursue the perpetrators of the Kware femicide cases not only demonstrates contempt for the victims but also reinforces the pattern that, under the current government’s watch, perpetrators of femicide can kill women and traumatise families with impunity,” she said during the press conference.
Following the press briefing, Wamuchomba took to her X account to further highlight what she described as the ministry’s inaction.
She noted that officials have repeatedly cited the escape of a key suspect from police custody 12 months ago as the reason for the stalled investigations.
“Of concern is the unresolved issue of 42 bodies of women recovered from Kware Dumpsite in Embakasi (Mukuru) 13 months ago with no concrete roadmap to arrest the killers and perpetrators,” she wrote.
She added, “Interestingly, the Cabinet Minister for Interior has the audacity to explain how they were not able to apprehend the killers since the suspect escaped from police custody one year ago!”
Wamuchomba also raised concerns over how the Interior Ministry handled the BBC Africa Eye exposé that exposed details of Kenya’s child sex trade. She faulted Murkomen for dismissing the investigation as a hoax meant to tarnish Kenya’s international image.
“The shocking child sex exposé’ by BBC Africa has elicited interest in the manner in which the duty bearers through the Cs interior have dismissed as a HOAX and a scheme to tarnish Kenya’s Image internationally,” the statement read.
In addition, the legislator criticised National Assembly Speaker Moses Wetang’ula for suspending her, arguing that his actions protected government officials instead of holding them accountable.
“Speaker Wetangula’s decision to act against me, rather than holding CS Murkomen accountable for failing to fulfil his constitutional duty to safeguard internal security, further perpetuates this pattern of contempt,” Wamuchomba stated during the press conference.
