The Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) has disclosed the name of a police officer arrested in Nairobi over an alleged bribery incident.
In a statement released on Thursday, August 14, the commission identified the officer as Police Constable Philip Ochieng’ Adongo, who was attached to Sarang’ombe Police Post. He was taken into custody after being linked to a demand for a KSh 4,000 bribe.
According to the EACC, the officer is accused of requesting the money from a complainant as an inducement to arrest a suspect in an ongoing case.
The matter had already been officially recorded at Sarang’ombe Police Station under the OB number 16/18/07/2025 before the EACC stepped in to investigate.
During the sting operation, EACC officers also arrested a civilian identified as George Otieno Oywer. Investigators allege that he collected the bribe on behalf of the police officer, a move that directly tied him to the offence.
Both men were taken to the EACC Integrity Centre in Nairobi for processing. In its statement, the commission stressed that it remains committed to fighting bribery and restoring public trust in service delivery.
The agency explained that this arrest forms part of its broader effort to tackle corruption within the police service and other public institutions.
It added that similar operations will continue, with EACC teams monitoring service points to catch officials who solicit or receive bribes.This latest case is not an isolated incident.
Earlier this year, in March, the EACC arrested Police Constable Purity Njeri from Kilimani Police Station in Nairobi on allegations of seeking a KSh 20,000 bribe from a motorist.
Investigators at the time reported that she had already received KSh 10,000 via an M-Pesa till number and was waiting for the balance when she was caught.
Njeri was later charged at the Milimani Anti-Corruption Court with three counts related to soliciting bribes. She denied the accusations and was released on a KSh 20,000 cash bail pending further proceedings.
The EACC has been keen to remind the public that reporting bribery cases is an important step in the fight against corruption. It warned that corruption undermines the rule of law, erodes trust in public institutions, and delays justice for those seeking it.
The commission has urged citizens to come forward with information whenever they encounter such misconduct, promising that action will be taken.
With continued enforcement and public cooperation, the EACC hopes to dismantle the culture of bribery that has persisted in parts of the law enforcement system, ensuring that integrity and accountability are upheld.
