Kirinyaga Governor Anne Waiguru has hinted that she might run for another political seat after finishing her second term as the county boss.
Speaking with confidence, she welcomed the calls from residents who encouraged her to seek another leadership position within the county. Waiguru said the final decision will be made by the people of Kirinyaga, and she promised to respect whatever direction they give her when the 2027 general elections approach.
She added that she believes her development track record gives her a strong chance of earning support if she decides to contest.
During her speech, Waiguru confidently said that because of her performance in bringing development to Kirinyaga, she believes residents will stand with her in any political seat she chooses to run for.
She added, “I know because of my performance in terms of development, you will support my bid for any political seat when the time for elections comes.” She continued by asking for future support in a humble manner, saying, “I ask you not to chase me away when I come asking for your support.”
Her remarks suggested that she is already thinking ahead and positioning herself for a potential national role, but also showing that she intends to consult widely before making her move.
Waiguru also used the platform to urge Kenyans to be tolerant and wise, especially when handling political disagreements. She said Kenya has come a long way in strengthening democracy, and that people should avoid actions that threaten the progress made.
The governor expressed concern about the growing political intolerance in the country, warning that the nation could find itself in serious trouble if it continues on this path.
According to Waiguru, Kenya is “playing with fire” when people begin to silence others simply because they belong to different political camps.
She warned that preventing people from expressing different opinions is a dangerous habit and goes against the spirit of democracy. Waiguru insisted that Kenyans should remain open-minded and allow everyone to speak freely.
She reminded the public that voters are smart enough to make their own choices without being manipulated or misled. This message was clearly directed at leaders and citizens who try to shut down voices that disagree with them politically.
While she has not confirmed the exact seat she intends to go for, Waiguru made it clear that she has many political options available. She said she is watching the political environment closely and will make her final decision based on the direction the country is heading.
Her statements come at a time when political temperatures across the country are rising ahead of the next general election.
