Kihara’s past confrontation with Ruto resurfaces amid growing Kenya Kwanza divisions

Date:

Naivasha MP Jane Kihara has come out to share details of a past confrontation with President William Ruto, revealing what she describes as unfair treatment of Mount Kenya leaders.

According to Kihara, the President was visibly angered when she questioned why Kiharu MP Ndindi Nyoro appeared to be receiving special treatment.

She said that during their exchange, Ruto became agitated and asked her, “What do you take me for?” before walking away from the conversation.

This confrontation now sheds more light on growing cracks within the Kenya Kwanza coalition, especially among leaders from the Mount Kenya region.

Kihara’s statement comes as she firmly aligns herself with former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, who was recently impeached and is now leading opposition efforts against President Ruto.

Her move signals a shift in loyalties and adds more pressure to the ongoing tensions within the ruling coalition. She explained that her concerns were triggered by Nyoro’s apparent access to privileges such as helicopters, massive funding, and being received with red carpets at public events.

According to Kihara, this was not just about protocol or party strategy but a targeted plan by Ruto to raise Nyoro’s status above other Mount Kenya leaders.

She warned that such favoritism was dangerous and divisive, and pointed out that it could lead to long-term disunity within the region. Her position mirrors Gachagua’s repeated claims that the current administration is punishing leaders who do not support Ruto blindly.

The Naivasha MP said she raised the issue in good faith, hoping to find a solution, but was shocked by the President’s defensive reaction.

Despite the tension, she said she chose to stand her ground and refused to be intimidated.

Her public declaration of support for Gachagua appears to be part of a larger political plan as the country heads into the 2027 general election. Together, they have been calling for Mount Kenya unity and demanding that the region be treated fairly in national politics.

Kihara’s decision to openly challenge the President shows just how serious the fallout within Kenya Kwanza has become. She is no longer hiding her discontent and seems ready to take her battle to the national stage.

Even though Gachagua is no longer in power, the loyalty he still enjoys from some leaders like Kihara proves that the political fight in Mount Kenya is far from over.

These internal battles are likely to reshape alliances and test the strength of Ruto’s hold on the region.
