The story emerging from Alliance Girls High School has left many shocked and disturbed. For years, the school has been known for its strong academic record and commitment to discipline.
However, a recent report by Africa Uncensored has painted a very different picture behind the scenes. The report, based on four years of investigation, accuses a long-serving teacher, Peter Ayiro, of inappropriate relationships with students spanning more than two decades.Ayiro was not just any teacher.
He was trusted with leadership roles such as the Christian Union and the drama club. Former students describe how he gained their trust by giving special treatment, speaking to them in ways that made them feel unique and spiritually chosen, and spending time with them one-on-one. What started as mentorship turned into what many now see as calculated grooming.
Students spoke about being hugged, sent emotional messages, and even visited by Ayiro after leaving school. Some of them shared how the teacher kept close contact after graduation and later arranged private meetings that turned sexual.
One case involved a walk during the COVID-19 lockdown that ended in sexual activity. Another student said she was invited to sleep over at his house under the pretense of mentorship, which led to a similar experience. What makes this case more worrying is how the school allowed it to go on for so long.
According to the report, several teachers saw warning signs but never reported them. They either felt it was useless or feared retaliation. Ayiro had strong connections within the school, especially with a former principal, which many believe gave him a level of protection.
He could excuse students from normal duties, take them off campus without questions, and hold private gatherings with no consequences.
Spiritual influence played a big part in his control. Students viewed him as a spiritual leader, and his involvement in the Christian Union and ties to a church led by his father, Pastor Aggrey Ayiro, made him seem trustworthy.
Even when things felt wrong, students were confused, wondering if they were overthinking or being disrespectful. Some were manipulated during difficult periods in their lives, such as exam stress or family issues, making them more emotionally dependent on him.
Attempts to stop him internally were ignored. In 2018 and 2021, concerns were raised but no action was taken. A former chaplain and other teachers tried to speak up but were brushed off. Some staff members even joked about his behavior, calling it harmless rather than dangerous.
This pattern of silence and inaction helped him continue his behavior unchecked.
After school, the teacher’s influence didn’t stop. He was still active in church spaces where former students saw him again. One woman shared how she and a friend both realized they had been approached by Ayiro in romantic ways.
Together, they helped each other understand what had happened to them. Messages shared in the investigation reveal that Ayiro used emotional language, calling students names like “my heartbeat” or “special one,” which blurred the line between care and manipulation.
This situation raises hard questions about who is protecting students in schools that are supposed to be safe. If a teacher could behave this way at one of the most respected institutions in Kenya, for so many years, without being stopped, what does it say about the systems in place?
The Teachers Service Commission and the Ministry of Education have so far remained silent, as has the school itself. Ayiro has also not responded publicly to the report.
Africa Uncensored has made the full report available online, under the title “The Teacher and the System.” It includes firsthand accounts, messages, and a deep look into how a trusted figure allegedly used his position to harm the very students he was supposed to guide.
The silence from those in charge only adds to the pain of those who are now speaking out, hoping their voices will finally bring change.
