Four Al-Shabaab terrorists shot dead by SOG in Garissa as police arrest killers of officer in Nakuru

Date:

Four Al-Shabaab terrorists were gunned down early this morning, 2nd June 2025, by Kenya’s elite Special Operations Group (SOG) in the Najo and Guracho areas of Garissa County.

According to police reports, the group of militants was first spotted by a surveillance drone which helped security teams track their location. After the terrorists were located, SOG officers quickly moved in and engaged them in a fierce and deadly exchange of gunfire.

The confrontation ended with the death of all four terrorists. Security forces recovered several weapons from the scene, including AK-47 rifles, a PKM machine gun, multiple rounds of ammunition, and communication radios.

This successful operation shows the ongoing effort by Kenya’s security forces to eliminate threats and protect citizens from terror groups hiding near the border.

At the same time, the Directorate of Criminal Investigations has also confirmed the arrest of several individuals suspected of being involved in the murder of a police officer in Nakuru.

The suspects were arrested after they allegedly ambushed and attacked police officers who were trailing them. During the confrontation, one police officer was shot and killed, and two others were injured.

The attackers were eventually overpowered and taken into custody. The directorate later posted updates on different social media platforms, confirming the arrests and linking the suspects to other crimes.

According to their statement, the five suspects identified as William Nywhili Rioba, Nyahili Nyamuhaga Magige, Emmanuel Muita Muita, Catherine Nkatha Zakayo, and Peter Chacha were also involved in the murder of a businessman in Nakuru.

These two incidents have once again put the spotlight on the dangerous threats facing the country from both terror groups and criminal gangs. While the military continues to fight terrorists in the North Eastern region, law enforcement officers are also dealing with rising insecurity in urban areas.

The bravery shown by the SOG unit in Garissa and the officers in Nakuru shows that Kenya’s security teams remain committed to keeping the country safe. The losses suffered in the process, such as the death of the police officer in Nakuru, are painful reminders of the risks that come with these duties.

However, the arrests and successful operations also offer some hope that the criminals and terrorists will not get away with their actions. Police have promised to continue investigating and hunting down anyone involved in such crimes, urging the public to support their efforts by sharing any helpful information.
