Kiambu Governor Kimani Wamatangi has finally been exposed, and the evidence points to a governor who has not only betrayed public trust but also operated like a mafia boss in county leadership. His arrest on April 15, 2025, by the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) is not just a routine investigation it is the result of months of rot, greed, and impunity that have crippled Kiambu.
The governor, who was once paraded as a reformist, now stands accused of embezzling millions of shillings through a well-organized network of ghost workers and illegal procurement deals.

These are not just allegations they are backed by internal reports, whistleblowers, and undeniable financial trails that point straight to his doorstep.According to sources, the switch from an automated to a manual payment system was not an accident.
Senator Karungo Wa Thang’wa was among the first to raise the alarm in early 2024, warning that Wamatangi’s system allowed county funds to be looted through non-existent employees.

Over Ksh390 million disappeared in this scam alone, and instead of taking responsibility, Wamatangi went on the offensive, dismissing critics and deflecting blame. It gets worse.
Fifteen of his officers reportedly acquired Ksh500 million in unexplained wealth during his short term, while more than 200 individuals were illegally hired, deepening the crisis.

These are not the actions of a leader they are the fingerprints of a criminal enterprise running a county into the ground. What is even more disturbing is the silence and arrogance with which Wamatangi operated, ignoring repeated calls from MPs Kimani Ichung’wah and Alice Ng’ang’a who demanded an investigation back in November 2024.
Public outrage was boiling, but Wamatangi acted as if he was untouchable. His administration mirrors the same shameful era of Ferdinand Waititu, who is now serving time for stealing Ksh588 million.

Wamatangi has proven to be no different if anything, he has taken county looting to a more calculated level, hiding behind technicalities and PR stunts while his people suffered.Let’s be clear what happened in Kiambu is not a small mistake. It is grand theft and betrayal.

Residents have endured poor services, stalled development, and misuse of funds while their governor enriched himself and his cronies. The arrest is just the beginning. What Kiambu needs now is not just an investigation it needs a total purge. Every official linked to this mess should be removed and prosecuted.
There must be no shortcuts, no settlements, and no political shielding. Wamatangi must be made an example of, or the message to other governors will be that they can loot counties and walk free.

This is about justice, accountability, and ending the culture of impunity that has plagued counties for far too long.
