A major electronics theft in Nairobi has left a local business owner counting heavy losses after a group of suspected criminals raided his shop in the Central Business District and escaped with goods worth over Sh16 million.
The incident happened at Twiga Towers, where Mr Bingo Computers operates. Detectives say CCTV footage captured the suspects accessing the building and carrying out the operation in a manner that suggests careful planning.
The group appeared organized and moved quickly, indicating they knew exactly what they were looking for.
According to investigators, the break-in occurred at around 1am on Saturday. The suspects forced their way into the shop and began removing items within a short time.
They are seen in the footage moving swiftly as they collected electronics and packed them into sacks.
The gang targeted high-value goods, including computers, mobile phones, and accessories. After gathering the items, they ferried them to a vehicle that had been parked outside the building, allowing them to leave the scene without drawing attention.
Shop owner Moses Mwangi, also known as Mr Bingo, said the loss was devastating. He reported that more than 500 computers and over 100 iPhones were stolen during the raid.
He explained that much of the stock had been acquired on credit, making the situation even more difficult for him financially.
Earlier footage from the same building has raised further concerns.
At around 9.59pm, a man believed to be the ringleader was seen talking to security guards. About an hour later, one of the guards appeared unable to respond, with the suspect captured dragging him away.
Police believe the guards may have been drugged to make it easier for the gang to carry out the theft.
Detectives based at Central Police Station say investigations are at an advanced stage.
They are working to identify and arrest those involved, as well as recover the stolen items.
Authorities have also urged anyone with information that could assist in the case to come forward as efforts to track down the suspects continue.
