Security agencies intercept suspected Al-Shabaab uniforms in Eastleigh operation

Date:

A multi-agency security operation has disrupted a suspected terror supply chain after officers recovered a large consignment of uniforms believed to be linked to the militant group Al-Shabaab in Nairobi’s Eastleigh area.

The operation took place during the night at the busy KBS Garage zone and involved officers from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations Starehe unit working alongside the Anti-Terrorism Police Unit.

It followed intelligence gathered after an earlier interception in Dhobley on April 6, 2026, where Jubaland Security Forces seized 25 bales of suspected combat uniforms.

That discovery raised concern about a wider cross-border network moving such items.

Investigators traced part of the shipment to Eastleigh, specifically to a parcel outlet known as Gaani Parcel Express located along 12th Street.

Officers moved quickly and recovered 11 bales, each containing dozens of camouflage uniforms and T-shirts. Another bale with similar items was found at Vision Point Express, where the goods had been stored temporarily due to space constraints.

Preliminary findings suggest the manager at Gaani Parcel Express arranged for the temporary storage after receiving the consignment from an individual identified as Sharif.

As investigations progressed, officers linked the shipment to Safe Link Cargo, a company believed to have facilitated the importation of a larger batch totaling 37 bales.

Authorities say the cargo originated from China and entered the country through the Port of Mombasa disguised within consolidated goods.

One employee at Safe Link Cargo has been linked to the clearance and coordination of the shipment, with investigators pointing to a network involving several individuals who handled different stages of the process.

Records indicate the goods were collected on April 4 and later transported to Eastleigh before being intercepted. All recovered items have been secured as evidence, while several suspects remain in custody assisting with investigations.

Authorities say the operation highlights growing coordination among security agencies in detecting and stopping potential threats before they reach the public.

Investigations are ongoing as officers pursue more leads and possible accomplices connected to the network.
