Former President Uhuru Kenyatta has urged residents of the Mt Kenya region to stay united and cautious as the country begins to shift focus toward the 2027 General Election.
Speaking during the burial of the late Senator Daniel Karaba in Kirinyaga County, Kenyatta warned against falling for political manipulation. He said many politicians rely on persuasive language to win support, often without offering genuine solutions to the people.
“It is good to listen to leaders,” Kenyatta said, before cautioning that words alone should not guide decision-making. “Politicians have a sweet tongue, and I told you. Even that last-born daughter of yours, whom you hope to marry off to a well-educated man, you may end up giving her away because of a sweet tongue.”
His remarks appeared aimed at reminding voters to think carefully before trusting leaders based only on promises or public charm.
Kenyatta stressed that leadership should be judged on honesty, integrity, and a clear commitment to development.
He also called on the region to avoid divisions that often arise during election periods. According to him, unity will help communities resist being used for political gain.
He noted that some leaders thrive on creating ethnic or personal rivalries, which distract from real issues affecting citizens.
Kenyatta encouraged voters to support leaders who give honest advice and focus on improving livelihoods, infrastructure, and economic opportunities.
He emphasized that the country’s future depends on informed choices made by the electorate, not emotional or misleading appeals.
His message comes at a time when early political alignments and campaigns are beginning to take shape ahead of the 2027 polls, with leaders already engaging different regions in preparation for the contest.
