Public Service Cabinet Secretary Geoffrey Ruku has stirred fresh political debate after saying Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna is not yet a serious threat to President William Ruto or other major political leaders ahead of the 2027 General Election.
Speaking during a recent public engagement, Ruku argued that Sifuna has not reached the level where he can worry experienced political players.
According to the CS, the ODM secretary-general still has a long way to go before he can be considered a major challenger in national politics.
“Sifuna hasn’t reached the threshold of being a potential threat to any serious political players like Ruto in Kenya. He’s not a threat at all,” Ruku said.
His remarks come at a time when political activities across the country are increasing. Opposition leaders have continued holding rallies, while discussions about possible alliances ahead of the 2027 elections have become more frequent.
Sifuna has in recent months remained one of the most vocal opposition leaders. He has repeatedly criticised the Kenya Kwanza administration over the cost of living, governance, and economic policies.
He has also taken part in opposition meetings alongside leaders such as Kalonzo Musyoka, Fred Matiang’i and Rigathi Gachagua.
Ruku’s comments are likely to trigger different reactions from both supporters of the government and the opposition. While Kenya Kwanza leaders maintain that President Ruto remains politically strong, opposition figures insist they are building a united front capable of offering Kenyans an alternative leadership.
