Trust in police shaken after officer joins looters amid Ojwang protests

Date:

A police officer is under investigation after he was allegedly caught stealing a laptop from an electronics store during protests in Nairobi’s Central Business District. The protests began after the death of popular blogger Albert Ojwang, who passed away while in police custody.

His death has caused widespread anger across the country, especially after a postmortem revealed he had suffered serious physical abuse before dying. Many Kenyans are blaming the police for his death and are accusing them of using excessive force and abusing their power.

According to people who witnessed the incident, the police officer was supposed to be keeping peace and order as tensions ran high in the CBD. However, instead of doing his job, he was seen walking into a damaged electronics shop and coming out with a laptop.

The store had earlier been broken into during clashes between demonstrators and police. While some protestors were peacefully marching for justice, others took advantage of the situation to loot shops and damage property.

Unfortunately, it now appears that even the police were part of the looting.

Several videos have been posted on social media showing what looks like a police officer holding a laptop and walking away from the shop. These clips have gone viral and have only increased the public’s anger.

Many people online are expressing disappointment and saying that the police are supposed to protect citizens and businesses, not steal from them.

Some users have questioned how the public is expected to trust the police when officers are caught behaving like criminals in public. So far, the police department has not released any official statement regarding the alleged theft. But sources from within the department say that investigations have already begun. If the officer is found guilty, he may lose his job and could even be charged in court.

This incident has added fuel to the ongoing protests, which are not only about Ojwang’s death but also about a long history of police brutality in Kenya.Protesters continue to fill the streets, calling for justice for Albert Ojwang and demanding that the government take action against police officers who misuse their power.

The incident involving the laptop has become a symbol of the bigger problem facing the police service in the country. Many Kenyans feel that unless real change is made, incidents like this will keep happening, and public trust in the police will continue to disappear.
