On Sunday, November 24, former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua accused Kenya Kwanza leaders of being terrified of President William Ruto.
Gachagua launched another famous political outburst during a church service at the AIPCA Kangari in Kigumo, Murang’a County, offering a new perspective on what led to his longstanding feud with President Ruto.
The self-proclaimed ‘truthful guy’ told the congregation that he was one of the few leaders who could publicly criticize the President when he believed some of Ruto’s choices were detrimental to civilians, mentioning the collapsed Adani accords as a prime example.
“The Adani issue was the source of friction between myself and the President,” Gachagua said.“In the Cabinet, I was the only one who could speak the truth. All others were afraid. When the president stared down at them, they all bowed down.”He added,
“Whenever Cabinet Secretaries were in disagreement, they used to ask me to tell the President. Nobody can tell the president this is not right.
”While asserting that the country’s degree of impunity was at an all-time high, Gachagua also claimed that if he attempted to speak out against the Adani deal, he was considered as an enemy of progress.
“I told the president this Adani deal was plagued with flaws and the people did not want it, and he despised me for it. And it was put out to look like I was opposing government projects,” Gachagua said.
Despite President Ruto severing relations with Adani over a stunning Ksh30 billion bribery allegation, Gachagua claims the government only cut links with the Indian giant when the US government blew the whistle.
Three weeks after being impeached as Deputy President, the former DP’s most recent comments reflected a man with nothing left to lose in his political career.
As the struggle for domination in 2027 starts to shape up, Gachagua is bent on cementing the Mount Kenya bloc. He has previously indicated that people from the region don’t forget.
Meanwhile, there have been fears about Gachagua’s safety in recent days, with the former DP claiming to have been followed by unmarked automobiles on Thursday, November 21.
The former DP claimed on social media that unmarked cars were stationed outside his house before following him to the Presbyterian Church of East Africa (PCEA) in Kerarapon.
