SHELL: Vivo energy breaks silence on claims of poor grade fuel

Date:

Vivo Energy Kenya has recently found itself at the center of controversy after allegations surfaced claiming that the company sells low-quality fuel at its petrol stations in Nairobi.

The company, which is the exclusive distributor and marketer of Shell products in Kenya, has strongly denied these claims.

In a statement released on Sunday, Vivo Energy Kenya addressed a video circulating on social media that purported to show random tests being conducted on fuel from various stations, suggesting that the quality of fuel sold by the company was substandard.

The company firmly refuted these allegations, emphasizing its commitment to maintaining high-quality standards in all its products.

Vivo Energy Kenya explained that it has strict quality control processes in place at its depots to ensure that all fuels meet the required standards.

The company imports fuel into Kenya under stringent quality regulations, offering two standard Research Octane Number (RON) categories: Unleaded (RON 93) and Shell V-Power (RON 95).

Each shipment of fuel is certified at its source and undergoes rigorous testing upon arrival in the country.

Additionally, the company conducts further checks to verify that all fuels meet the necessary criteria before they are dispensed through its nationwide network of Shell service stations.

Vivo Energy Kenya assured its customers that it takes these allegations seriously and has initiated a comprehensive investigation, including independent laboratory testing. The company promised to provide updates once the review is complete.

The video that sparked the controversy showed individuals allegedly comparing the quality of fuel from different stations. This has led to mixed reactions among Kenyans and social media users, with some expressing concern over the quality of fuel they purchase, while others have defended the company, citing its long-standing reputation.

Vivo Energy Kenya, which was established in November 2012, is a well-known player in the energy sector, providing a wide range of products, including vehicle fuels, lubricants, aviation fuels, liquefied petroleum gas (LPG), and black fuels.

The company serves customers across various market sectors, from retail to commercial, and operates oil storage terminals in Nairobi, Mombasa, and Nanyuki.

It also provides aviation services at major airports, including Jomo Kenyatta International Airport, Wilson Airport, Mombasa International Airport, and Malindi Airport, and runs a lubricating oil blending factory in Mombasa.

Beyond its business operations, Vivo Energy Kenya is also known for its Community Investment Programmes, which aim to create long-term social and economic benefits for the communities it serves.

These initiatives reflect the company’s commitment to not only delivering high-quality products but also contributing positively to society.

Vivo Energy Kenya remains focused on upholding its reputation and ensuring that its customers receive the best possible service and products. The company’s swift response to the allegations demonstrates its dedication to transparency and accountability, qualities that have helped it build trust with its customers over the years.
