Sebastian Sawe set for Berlin marathon test after strong London performance

Date:

Kenyan long-distance runner Sebastian Sawe is preparing for one of the biggest races of his career after confirming his participation in the 2026 BMW Berlin Marathon scheduled for September 27.

The marathon comes just months after his impressive performance at the London Marathon, where he delivered a historic sub-two-hour run that further strengthened his reputation as one of Kenya’s rising stars in long-distance running.

The Berlin Marathon is expected to attract close to 80,000 participants from about 160 countries around the world.

The event will include marathon runners, wheelchair athletes, handcyclists, and skaters, making it one of the largest and most celebrated road races globally.

Organisers have announced that more than 55,000 marathon runners will take part in the main race, while over 10,000 slots have been reserved for residents of Berlin.

Sawe’s participation has already created excitement among athletics fans, especially with reports indicating that marathon legend Eliud Kipchoge is also expected to compete.

The possibility of the two Kenyan stars facing each other in Berlin has raised anticipation ahead of the race.

Kipchoge remains the holder of the Berlin Marathon course record after clocking 2:01:09 during the 2022 edition, a performance that is still regarded as one of the greatest marathon runs in history.

Sawe has expressed confidence ahead of the event, saying he believes he can run even faster with the right preparation and training.

His recent performances have shown strong improvement and consistency, making him one of the athletes to watch in the coming season.

Many athletics followers now see Berlin as a major test for the young runner as he aims to challenge some of the sport’s biggest names on one of the fastest marathon courses in the world.

With both Sawe and Kipchoge likely to line up in Berlin, fans are already looking forward to a highly competitive race that could produce another memorable moment for Kenyan athletics.
