Salasya confronts Murkomen as fears grow over killer squad behind Ojwang’s Death

Date:

Mumias East Member of Parliament Peter Salasya has spoken out strongly after the death of Albert Ojwang, who died while in police custody. Salasya believes something more serious is happening behind the scenes and has raised concerns about the existence of a killer squad in the country.

Ojwang died only a few hours after being arrested by officers from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations, and now serious questions are being asked about what really happened to him while he was being held.

Salasya, while demanding justice, said these are the kind of days many feared would come, where people are arrested and end up dead without proper explanation. He did not point fingers at specific individuals but clearly suggested that the events surrounding Ojwang’s death show signs of organized and dangerous activity within security agencies.

His concern comes after a postmortem revealed disturbing details that contradicted the police’s explanation. The initial police report claimed that Ojwang hit his head on a wall inside a police cell, but the medical evidence does not support this.

Pathologist Bernard Midia, who examined Ojwang’s body, said the injuries found on the head could not have been caused by someone hitting themselves against a wall. The bleeding was spread across the face, sides, and back of the head, which does not match the injuries one would get from a single blow.

Midia also mentioned that if someone hits their head on a wall, the bleeding would usually appear in the front, not the way it was found on Ojwang’s body. He carried out the examination alongside a representative of the family, Mutuma Zambezi, and they both agreed the injuries were not self-inflicted.

There were also marks and bruises on other parts of the body including the arms and upper body, pointing to a possible beating or torture before death. This evidence has led to growing suspicion that Ojwang may have been assaulted while in custody, and Salasya has taken the matter to the highest level.

He wrote a formal letter to Interior Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen, asking for urgent answers. In his letter dated June 10, 2025, Salasya outlined nine detailed questions that the Cabinet Secretary must respond to.

These questions cover the reason and process of Ojwang’s arrest, what condition he was kept in, whether he was given medical care, who handled his body, how the postmortem was conducted, and how witnesses and evidence are being protected.

He also asked what long-term steps the ministry will take to prevent such deaths from happening again.Salasya’s call for justice is growing louder, and the postmortem report has only made the situation more serious. The public is now watching closely to see if the government will act quickly and honestly, or if this will become just another case of abuse swept under the carpet.

For now, Ojwang’s death has left more questions than answers, and pressure is mounting for full accountability.
