Ruto suspends BioVax chair Mishra amid shocking kidney operation allegations

Date:

The suspension of Dr. Swarup Mishra by President William Ruto has put a spotlight on the dark and disturbing side of Kenya’s private healthcare sector.

Dr. Mishra, known to many as the founder of Mediheal Hospital and Fertility Centre in Eldoret, has long painted himself as a respectable doctor and businessman.

But the recent decision to suspend him as Chair of the Kenya BioVax Institute tells a different story one riddled with unethical practices and suspected illegal medical procedures.

At the heart of the scandal are shocking allegations linked to kidney transplant procedures carried out at Mediheal Hospital.

The details remain under investigation, but early findings suggest that the hospital could be involved in practices that put desperate patients at serious risk, possibly including organ trafficking or exploitation of vulnerable individuals.

These are not minor claims; they are serious violations that go against the core of medical ethics and human rights.

What makes this even more alarming is that Mishra was not only running a hospital but also held a key public health role, overseeing a government institution meant to lead Kenya in biotechnology and vaccine development.

His leadership at BioVax raised concerns even before this scandal came to light, with critics pointing to his dual roles as both a private healthcare mogul and a government official as a potential conflict of interest.

Now, with this suspension, those concerns have been tragically confirmed. The President’s firm action, as communicated by State House Spokesperson Hussein Mohamed, signals a turning point.

“The suspension shall remain in force pending the outcome of investigations into serious allegations of unethical and illegal activities involving kidney transplant procedures,” the statement read.

This shows that the government is finally taking a serious look at the rot within high-ranking health officials and institutions.

Dr. Mishra’s fall from grace was long overdue. For years, whispers have followed him accusations of overcharging patients, prioritizing profit over patient care, and using his political connections to expand his private empire.

Mediheal has often been accused of operating more like a business than a hospital, with many patients alleging mistreatment and excessive costs for procedures.

Now, with authorities closing in, it appears these accusations were not just rumors. This case should not be viewed in isolation. It speaks to the larger problem of corruption and greed in Kenya’s healthcare system. When those in charge of life-and-death decisions start acting like businessmen instead of caregivers, the results are deadly.

Dr. Mishra’s actions, if confirmed, are a betrayal to the medical profession and a danger to the public. The government must not only investigate but also ensure that justice is served.

Mishra’s reputation as a medical expert has been severely damaged, and no amount of PR can clean it up. The truth must come out, and if found guilty, he should face the full weight of the law.

Kenya needs a healthcare system built on trust, not greed. And people like Mishra have no place in it.
