“Resist Before It’s Too Late” Bobi Wine Cautions Kenyans Amidst Surge In Abductions

Date:

Ugandan opposition leader Robert Kyagulanyi, alias Bobi Wine, has expressed sympathy for Kenyans following the current wave of purported abductions.

According to Wine, it is unfortunate that Kenya appears to be drifting away from being the East African region’s light of hope.

He claimed that, in addition to the purported abductions, the country is growing increasingly hostile to regime critics.

This was in reference to Ugandan opposition politician Kizza Besigye’s recent ‘abduction’ in Nairobi and subsequent return to Uganda, where he is currently being court-martialed.

“Very sad to see how quickly Kenya is descending from being regarded as a beacon of hope for our troubled East African region to now being known for abductions of young citizens critical to the government of the day,” he said.

Wine stated that Kenyans must firmly reclaim their country before it slides into authoritarian rule.

He stated that it is past time for Kenyans to defend their constitution before it becomes ineffective in protecting any person.

“I sympathise with you, Wandungu, the great people of Kenya. Like I warned you previously, you must resist.”

“Therefore, to you Kenyan friends, you must defend your Constitution before it is too weak to defend you,” Bobi Wine added.

“If you do not uproot repression when it is a seedling, it becomes much harder when it takes root, grows into a tree, and spreads its branches everywhere.”

His accusations come as Kenyan police deny involvement in any of the abductions.Inspector General Douglas Kanja denied any allegations of police complicity in the country’s continuous abductions.

Kanja stated on Thursday that no police station in the country is currently holding any of the people who have been reported abducted.

“For avoidance of doubt, the National Police Service is not involved in any abduction, and there is no police station in the country that is holding the reported abductees,” he said.

The IG also stated that the Independent Policing Oversight Authority (IPOA) will investigate the alleged abductions, and he urged members of the public to report any valuable information about the missing persons to the local police station.
