Residents cry foul as Abala Wanga allegedly uses his position to shield his noisy club

Date:

As per the reports shared by Cyprian Is Nyakundi on X, residents of Kimute Estate in Kisumu Central Sub County are deeply troubled by uncontrolled noise pollution from clubs operating within their residential area.

Despite their numerous complaints to relevant authorities, including the National Environment Management Authority (NEMA), the Regional Commissioner’s Office, and the County Commissioner’s Office, no action has been taken.

The loud music continues until morning, depriving residents of sleep and peace. Many suspect that Kisumu City Manager Michael Abala Wanga, who is allegedly the owner of one of these clubs, is using his influence to protect these establishments from regulation.

For nearly five years, the people of Kimute Estate have been struggling with sleepless nights caused by blaring music from clubs such as Club Bistro, Mamba, Club Hawaii, Otro, and Vunduba.

These clubs, some of which host live bands frequently, have made it impossible for residents to enjoy the tranquility of their homes. Parents with young children, elderly citizens, and even sick individuals have been forced to endure the unbearable noise with no help in sight. The residents have repeatedly reached out to authorities, only to be ignored or frustrated. They are now convinced that Abala Wanga’s involvement is a major reason for the lack of enforcement.

The allegations that Wanga is not only protecting the noisy clubs but also owns one of them paint a picture of impunity within Kisumu’s leadership. His position as city manager should ideally place him at the forefront of enforcing regulations to protect citizens, yet he is allegedly shielding businesses that violate the law.

The fact that complaints have been forwarded to multiple government agencies with no response further suggests a systemic failure. The county government, led by Governor Anyang’ Nyong’o, has also been accused of turning a blind eye to the suffering of Kimute Estate residents.

This situation raises questions about the effectiveness of noise pollution regulations and the role of powerful individuals in undermining enforcement. If the city manager can use his position to frustrate legitimate complaints from citizens, then the governance of Kisumu County is in question.

The law is clear on noise pollution in residential areas, yet enforcement is selective, seemingly influenced by political connections and financial interests. The residents have now appealed to the county government to intervene decisively.

They are demanding not only the enforcement of noise regulations but also accountability from those who have been obstructing justice. If these businesses are operating illegally in a residential area, they must be either relocated or forced to comply with existing laws.

The protection of public welfare should take precedence over individual business interests. This case exemplifies the growing problem of impunity in county leadership, where individuals in power prioritize personal gain over the well-being of the people they are meant to serve.

If leaders like Abala Wanga can allegedly manipulate the system to silence complaints, then what hope do ordinary citizens have in seeking justice?

The residents of Kimute Estate are tired of empty promises and are now calling for immediate action. The county government, under Governor Nyong’o, must prove that it is not complicit in this issue by taking firm and visible action against the noise pollution menace.
