Questions emerge over Ksh 2.2 million digital campaign as blogger points finger at Pauline Njoroge

Date:

Political blogger Pauline Njoroge has come under criticism online after a former blogger claimed she kept most of the money meant for a group of digital campaigners working on a political project.

The accusation, shared on Facebook, has triggered debate about how money is handled within Kenya’s online political networks.

Pauline Njoroge, often referred to online as “Jezebel,” has been active in Kenya’s digital political space for several years.

During that time, she has been associated with different political camps, including allies of former president Uhuru Kenyatta and the Azimio la Umoja–One Kenya Coalition Party coalition. She has also been seen at public events attended by opposition leaders such as Rigathi Gachagua.

Because of this background, her name frequently appears in discussions about digital political campaigns and the bloggers who help shape public opinion online.

The controversy began after a man who said he previously worked as a blogger under her posted a detailed claim about a project called “Mama Boyz.”

According to him, the project involved about 25 bloggers who were allegedly mobilized to push certain political messages online.

He claimed the effort was linked to activities around Rigathi Gachagua and aimed at promoting certain narratives while countering others.

The blogger explained that one week each member of the group received Ksh 5,000 from Pauline.

She reportedly told them the money was just preparation for bigger work related to Gachagua and encouraged them to continue supporting the project so that future opportunities could come from the political leadership.

However, the accuser said he later learned that the total payment for the job was Ksh 2.2 million. Based on his claims, the 25 bloggers together received only Ksh 125,000, leaving a much larger amount unaccounted for.

He accused Pauline of keeping nearly Ksh 2 million while the bloggers who were creating and sharing content received small payments.

After the story was posted, screenshots and summaries quickly spread on platforms such as X. Some posts repeated the figures mentioned in the claim and questioned where the rest of the money went.

Others criticized Pauline directly, while a few defended her and argued that the person who secures a contract often keeps a large share of the payment.

Online reactions have been mixed. Some users said the bloggers should have agreed on clear payment terms before starting the work. Others argued that digital campaign teams often operate informally, which can lead to disagreements about money.

This is not the first time Pauline Njoroge has been at the center of public discussion. In the past she has faced legal troubles, including an arrest in Kilifi over claims related to narcotics possession, although the case was later dropped.

She has also been vocal on national issues through her social media platforms, commenting on topics such as corruption, education policy, and public health matters.

The accusation has also brought attention to the wider structure of political blogging in Kenya. Many bloggers rely on short-term online jobs connected to political campaigns.

In some cases, payments pass through coordinators or team leaders who organize the work and communicate with political clients.

The claims about Pauline Njoroge and the “Mama Boyz” group have therefore added to an ongoing debate about how digital political teams operate in Kenya and how those involved should handle trust, payment, and responsibility within the fast-moving world of online political messaging.
