Police seize uninsured Mercedes-Benz GLE 350 owned by “Kenyan Prince” along Lusaka road

Date:

Traffic police officers in Nairobi have impounded a luxury Mercedes-Benz GLE 350 linked to popular Forex trader and TikToker Raymond Omosa, widely known as Kenya’s Youngest Sponsor or “Kenyan Prince.”

The high-end vehicle was seized along Lusaka Road after it was found to be unregistered and uninsured at the time it was being driven by a mechanic identified as Erick Araka.

The arrest and subsequent arraignment at the Milimani Law Courts have sparked public attention, especially due to Omosa’s fame for flaunting wealth and expensive cars on social media.

According to court documents, the mechanic was driving the Mercedes-Benz on November 5, 2025, around 9:49 a.m., when he was stopped by traffic officers for failing to produce valid registration and insurance details.

The charge sheet outlines four separate counts under the Traffic Act and the Insurance (Motor Vehicle Third Party Risks) Act.

The first count accuses Araka of driving an unregistered vehicle, while the second charges him with driving without insurance coverage, both of which are serious offences under Kenyan law. Authorities stated that the vehicle had no valid insurance certificate and was not displaying any registration plates.

The third count details that Araka failed to display an insurance certificate as required by law. This adds to his legal troubles since every vehicle on public roads must have the certificate visibly placed.

The fourth count accuses him of driving without a valid driving licence, a violation that could attract fines or imprisonment upon conviction.

Court officials noted that Araka appeared calm during the hearing, though the charges carry potentially heavy penalties.

Speaking to a reporter after his court appearance, Araka claimed that he was only testing the vehicle after repairing its brake pads when it was impounded. He insisted that he had no intention of breaking the law and that the car was in his custody temporarily as part of his mechanical work.

His statement suggested that the incident may have been a misunderstanding between him and the authorities.

Meanwhile, Raymond Omosa, the car’s owner, appeared at the Milimani Law Courts shortly after the arraignment to seek the mechanic’s release.

Witnesses at the court said the TikToker looked concerned and was seen engaging with lawyers and officers in an effort to resolve the issue.

Despite his social media reputation for luxury and lavish spending, this incident has brought unwanted attention to him, raising questions about the registration and legal compliance of his expensive car collection.

The Mercedes-Benz GLE 350 remains impounded as investigations continue. Police sources hinted that the case could expand to include verification of the vehicle’s import and ownership documents.

The matter has also drawn curiosity from the public, with many wondering how a luxury vehicle of that class could be operating on Nairobi roads without registration or insurance.

The court is expected to issue further directions as the case proceeds.
