Two men were arrested and cannabis worth an estimated Sh3.3 million was seized after a high-speed chase along the Eldoret-Nakuru Highway.
The operation was carried out by detectives from the Anti-Narcotics Unit (ANU) in Nakuru, working together with K9 officers, following intelligence reports about suspected drug trafficking activities.
According to police, the officers had been monitoring a blue Nissan Note, registration number KDN 836H, which was believed to be transporting illegal drugs.
Acting on the information, the detectives set up an operation and positioned themselves along the highway to intercept the vehicle.
When officers signaled the driver to stop, he allegedly ignored the order and accelerated in an attempt to escape. This triggered a chase along the busy highway as detectives pursued the vehicle.
During the pursuit, officers managed to damage one of the vehicle’s front tyres, but that did not immediately stop the driver.
Police said the driver continued speeding despite the deflated tyre, creating a dangerous situation for other road users.
The vehicle reportedly made a risky U-turn at the KFA Roundabout before heading toward the Eveready area while running on a flat rim.
As the chase continued, the suspects eventually realized they could not evade the pursuing officers. They abandoned the vehicle and fled on foot, hoping to escape arrest. Detectives quickly moved in and launched a brief pursuit on foot.
Their attempt to escape was unsuccessful as officers caught up with them and arrested both suspects before they could disappear.
The two men were identified as Emmanuel Wesonga and Stephen Daria.Following the arrests, detectives conducted a search of the abandoned vehicle.
Inside, they discovered five sacks containing Cannabis Sativa. The recovered drugs weighed a total of 110 kilograms and were estimated to have a street value of Sh3.3 million.
The suspects were taken into police custody, where they are undergoing processing ahead of their planned court appearance.
Authorities also detained the seized cannabis as evidence to support the case.
The latest seizure highlights ongoing efforts by anti-narcotics officers to disrupt the movement and distribution of illegal drugs across the country. Investigators are expected to continue with inquiries as they prepare charges against the two suspects.
