Residents of Siaya County are in shock following the tragic death of Constable Christone Maundu, whose body was discovered along the Ndori-Luanda Kotieno Road near Rarieda Secondary School.
The police officer died under heartbreaking circumstances after his motorcycle ran out of fuel, leaving him stranded and vulnerable. The incident took place on Thursday, July 17, and has left many questions unanswered.
According to police reports, Constable Maundu had been with two fellow officers earlier in the day. They were returning to Aram shopping center when his motorcycle stalled due to lack of fuel.
After realizing he was stuck, he called his colleagues to ask for help. Sadly, by the time they arrived at the location, they found him lying on the ground with serious head injuries. He was bleeding heavily and unresponsive.
Near his body, police found the motorcycle he had been using, which further confirmed that he had been waiting for assistance when he was attacked.
The scene showed no signs of a road accident, making it clear that this was not a crash, but a brutal attack.The motive behind the killing is still unknown.
Investigators are working to understand why anyone would target the officer, especially since there were no immediate signs of robbery or struggle.
The police have opened a formal investigation and senior officers have visited the crime scene to assess the situation and lead the search for answers. So far, no arrests have been made in connection to the murder.
The local community is struggling to come to terms with the loss.
