A police officer has been arrested in Nairobi after authorities recovered a large quantity of suspected cannabis during an operation carried out in Dagoretti Sub-County.
The arrest followed information provided by members of the public, leading officers to conduct a search at the suspect’s residence.
The operation was conducted on July 23, 2026, by officers from Muthangari Police Station.
According to police reports, the officers acted on a tip-off that led them to the residence of the suspect.
During the search, they recovered approximately 20 kilograms of suspected cannabis sativa.
Police said the drugs were found packed in two bags containing six bales wrapped in yellow tape.
The recovered substance was seized and secured as evidence as investigations into the matter continue.
Following the recovery, the police officer was immediately taken into custody. Authorities stated that the suspect is being processed and will be presented before a court to face charges related to the possession and handling of narcotic drugs.
Investigators are also expected to establish whether the recovered drugs were intended for personal use, distribution, or other illegal activities.
The incident has attracted attention because the suspect is a serving police officer, a position that carries the responsibility of enforcing the law and protecting the public.
However, police emphasized that all individuals are equal before the law and that investigations will proceed without any special treatment.
The National Police Service noted that the arrest demonstrates its commitment to fighting crime and maintaining accountability within its ranks.
The service stated that no person will be shielded from legal action because of their position, profession, or status in society.
Police also acknowledged the role played by members of the public in providing information that led to the successful operation.

The recovered narcotics remain in police custody as exhibits and will be presented in court as part of the case against the suspect.
