Police arrest six men in Meru following shocking gang rape during circumcision ceremony

Date:

Authorities in Meru are pushing forward with a serious investigation after a young woman was attacked during a traditional circumcision procession in Laare Town on December 1, 2025.

The situation unfolded after concerned members of the public made an urgent call alerting police that a woman was in danger and being assaulted by a group of men.

What officers found when they arrived painted a painful picture of what the victim had gone through, and it immediately set off a strong response from law enforcement.

Police officers rushed to the scene after receiving the distress call and found the woman in terrible condition. Her clothes were torn, and she was visibly shaken after the horrifying experience.

Officers took her to Nyambene Hospital so she could receive the medical care she needed. The incident shocked the community, prompting officers to move quickly to track down everyone involved in the attack.

The police launched a thorough manhunt right after rescuing the victim. They relied on forensic clues and intelligence to map out the movements of the suspects.

With this information, they carried out well-planned operations across several areas, including Irinde, Lubwa, and Kiarama. These operations led to the arrest of six men linked to the attack.

The suspects were identified as Dennis Mwirigi, Ismael Gichuge, Elijah Muriki, Isaac Ntomauta, Joseph Marete, and Phineas Mutali. Officers found them hiding in different locations, but none managed to escape the sustained search.

These six suspects add to the three others who had already been arrested on the same day the victim was rescued.

All nine suspects remain in custody as investigators continue processing their cases before they are formally charged in court.

Police say this is just part of a wider effort, as more people may have taken part in the attack.

Detectives are still pursuing other individuals believed to have been involved. Their focus is on ensuring that every suspect connected to the crime is found and held accountable. The officers handling the investigation have made it clear that they will not slow down until everyone involved is brought before the law.

The case has drawn strong reactions from residents, especially because the assault happened during a cultural event that is normally conducted with order and respect.

The incident has raised questions about safety during such gatherings and the need for stronger protection for vulnerable individuals.

The investigation continues, and police are urging anyone with information to step forward so the victim can get full justice and the community can find closure after such a disturbing event.
